Dear Mr Moriyama,

It is already a few weeks ago that I visit your area together with Evert, but again I want to thank you for your time during that visit.

For me it was very good to see the way the growers work in Japan and in this way I have a very good impression about Japan.

Ifm also impressed to see how everybody is really focused on the quality and we saw that for sure in the greenhouses we visited. Always good to have the conversations wich we had in the evening to talk about the future of the lilies.

After Japan and China I was in NZ for almost a week to visit all the growers.

With these pictures you have some impressions about Bakker and Island Bulbs and the crop of these two growers looks very good. Colour is ok and the bulbs are growing well. And if this weather continue for a while without a early nightfrost than crop should be fine. According to the growers everything is a little bit behind compared with last year. The most important is the irrigation at the moment but for now that is no problem and the weather is still good in their summer.

Only remarks is the planting-density of some varieties. Which can be too high like Caruso and Cherbourg at Bakker to get real big bulbs. And we talked about this to change this for next year because these two varieties needs the bigger sizes.

In the two year-cultivation at Bakker they lost a part last year with the nightfrost but this is already adjusted in our crop estimate.

Also the double noses in Santander is again a problem, around 20% as far we can see now.

Scales for next year looks very good as you can see on the pictures, in both ways naked and normal scales but both companies prefer to do the scales in both ways to spread the risk.

For the rest it looks good and they are preparing all the machinery for the coming season which will start in June. If you need more info or have some comments please let me know.

With best regards,
John Balvert
