件名　: short update on Tulip growing season

Dear Friends,

Following is short update on growing season of Tulips.

We visited growers in South Holland, Lisse area.
And also growers in North Holland, Breezand area.

For past two weeks, the growing conditions have been good for tulips. Many growers where very worried up
till that moment due to the cold winter and long cold spring.
But, weather conditions changed to good and mild weather. Tulips growth is now good.
Weather conditions for next 7 days are still good, temperatures 18-20 C.

Overall, the south part started browning a little bit too early due to the warm weather we had in weekend of 22-23 may.
In North part it did not have any negative effect and foliage remains green and strong.

We believe that the season is about 1 week later than normal. Although the Tulips still need to
grow more we are positive about next two weeks. The coming two weeks are very important for final growth.

Hyacinth in South part have some damage from warm weather also. Already we can see some brown foliage.
The North area does not have this problem.

Crocus started to brown very early, both in south and north. We expect shortages in Crocus.
Most growers do not want to offer any bulbs at this moment.
They wait for harvest first. The growth is not good enough.


Attached pictures will show you some idea of crop conditions at this moment.
The pictures starting with SH mean that they are made at grower in South Holland / Lisse area.
The pictures starting with DH mean made in North Holland / Breezand area.

The browing on foliage of variety Madame Lefebre is normal for this time of season. It is very early harvest variety.
